A Recipe for Wisdom
Series: Mother's Day
I wouldn’t call myself a cook, by any stretch of the imagination, but I tend to do okay if there are instructions I can follow.  Recipes are very helpful, especially good recipes.  This morning I want us to look at A Recipe for Wisdom.  God has given us His instructions for living our lives according to His plan, helping us to become everything He has created us to be.

The author of Psalm 119 gives us a clear look at God’s recipe for wise living in verses 97-104.  As we go through this recipe, we’ll see 4 things: 1) The Primary Ingredient of Godly Wisdom; 2) The Measure of Godly Wisdom; 3) The Desired Product of Godly Wisdom; and 4) The Enjoyment of God’s Wisdom.

A love for God’s Word leads to growth in Godly wisdom.

    Make Your Mama Proud
    Series: Mother's Day
Few things please a parent more than to see their child succeeding, making wise choices, and doing right things.  Unsurprisingly, many of the same things that please parents also please God.  Like our earthly parents, our Heavenly Father wants to see us learn and grow in doing the right things.  One of the things God wants to grow in us is wisdom.  Wisdom is the right application of knowledge.  It is the ability to correctly use truth, knowledge, experience, insight, or common sense.

In Proverbs 23;15-25, Solomon seeks to provide wisdom and insight into life and conduct.  What stands out are 5 things a wise heart does: 1) A Wise Heart Uses Right Speech; 2) A Wise Heart Has a Right Focus; 3) A Wise Heart Makes Right Choices; 4) A Wise Heart Listens to Right Counsel; 5) A Wise Heart Results in Gladness & Rejoicing.

Cultivate wisdom in the core of your being.

    Taking a Walk with Mom
    Series: Mother's Day
I think we all realize the importance of teaching small children – hopefully we see this as both an opportunity and responsibility.  It’s not just what a child may learn in school that is important, but what they learn and home and at church as well.  Moms are at the forefront of this, but every Christian can provide positive influence in the life of a child.  Jesus called us to make disciples and teach them.  That’s not just true of adults, but children as well.

The Apostle Paul’s words to Timothy in 2 Tim. 3:12-17 show us 5 things which all Christians ought to know.  But, these are also things which we should be passing down to the children in our lives, whether you are mother, a father, a grandparent, a Sunday School teacher, a mentor, or just a Christian friend.
While Paul’s words are instructive for all of us, I’m going to take what he says here and focus it on the kids this morning.  Here are the 5 things we’ll see in this passage: 1) Warn Kids that Sincere Faith Will Sometimes Be Opposed; 2) Give Kids a Solid Foundation; 3) Teach Kids to be Scripture Focused; 4) Lead Kids to Salvation Through Faith; 5) Show Kids They are Equipped to Serve Freely.
Encourage children to be faithful to God & His Word as they walk through this life.

Taking a Walk on Mother’s Day
    Series: Mother's Day
Most of us had mothers who were instrumental in teaching us to walk when we were toddlers.  But, what a joy and blessing it is that some of those same mothers taught us to walk according to God's Word.  In 2 John, we read about living the Christian life, and striving to walk in truth, in love, and in obedience to the Lord God.

We need to live lives of love and obedience to God’s truth.

    A Tale of Two Sisters
    Series: Mother's Day
Luke’s Gospel tells of a time when Jesus visited two sisters, Mary & Martha.  The passage serves as a lesson in priorities.  From the start we see that we have a choice as to how we will spend time with Jesus.  Secondly, serving Christ is a good thing, but, serving Christ with the wrong focus leads to frustration.  Finally, Jesus gently suggests that personal time with the Lord should be our priority.

In it all, we need to be sure we focus on what’s important, not just what’s immediate - make personal time with the Lord your priority.

    Don’t Forget
    Series: Mother's Day
In Psalm 103, David lays out for us a Pattern of Praise for God.  He indicates that our praise should be Personal, Passionate, Purposeful, and Particular.

Remember to praise God for His many blessings.
