Fighting the Good Fight
Series: 1 Timothy
There are a number of places in Scripture where God calls us to strive for peace, and to demonstrate gentleness and meekness. At the same time, however, He calls us to fight. We saw how God equips us for the spiritual battle when we studied the Armor of God from Ephesians 6. But, our fighting is to be done in the right way, and about the right things – we are to fight the good fight.
As we finish our study of 1 Timothy this morning we see Paul penning his final thoughts to Timothy. These last 3 paragraphs of the letter leave us with 3 final instructions: 1) Honor God by Obeying His Calling; 2) Follow God’s Wisdom on Handling Worldly Wealth; and 3) Guard the Truth and Stand Firm in the Faith.
Pursue Christlikeness and be a blessing to others as God has blessed you.
1 Timothy 6:11-21

Nov 2, 2025Good Habits for Growing ChristiansSeries: 1 TimothyChristian maturity doesn’t just happen to us passively. We need to actively pursue it. In order to grow as Christians, we would be wise to develop some good spiritual habits. Paul points out two things we can do to aid in spiritual growth in 1 Tim. 4:6-10. First, he encourages us to 1) Stay True to God’s Word – we need to focus on the truth, and at the same time identify the errors which stand against it. Secondly, Paul issues the call to 2) Train Yourself to be Godly – we need to develop and grow in personal holiness, striving for integrity in all we do.Spiritual growth requires spiritual exercise focused on spiritual truth.1 Timothy 4:6-10Nov. 2, 2025To watch the video of this message, click here.

Oct 26, 2025Don’t Fall for False TeachingSeries: 1 TimothyChurch should be a place where we can be safe from false teaching. But, even here, we still need to be on our guard. Jesus, Paul, Peter, Jude and others in Scripture repeatedly warned that false teachers would arise, even in the church, who would deceive many.As we come to 1 Timothy 4 this morning, Paul warns the young pastor against false teachers, highlighting three 3 things for us: 1) False Teaching can be Spiritually Fatal; 2) Rejecting What God has Given Does Not Make Us Righteous; and 3) Be Grateful for The Good Things God has Created.False teaching pulls people away from God and denies the goodness of His creation.1 Timothy 4:1-5Oct. 26, 2025To watch the video of this message, click here.

Oct 19, 2025How to Behave at HomeSeries: 1 TimothyIn the three short verses at the end of 1 Timothy 3, Paul mentions his purpose in writing the letter – that we will know how to live in God’s church. He wants us to understand how we are to behave in the household of God.There are 3 points we can identify in these 3 verses. The first one could almost escape our notice, but is worth mentioning. Paul gives us the example of 1) Seeking God’s Direction in All You Decide to Do. From there he goes on to encourage all in the church to 2) Live a Life that Pleases the Lord. The final verse of the chapter is a short hymn of sorts that spells out basic truths about Christ. Here the apostle encourages believers to 3) Ground Yourself in the Truth of the Gospel.Christians should be known by their Godly behavior and Biblical beliefs about Christ.1 Timothy 3:14-16Oct. 19, 2025To watch the video of this message, click here.

Sep 28, 2025A Schematic for Servant-LeadershipSeries: 1 TimothyIn 1 Timothy 3:8-13, Paul describes the sort of character deacons are to possess, rather than focusing on the functions they were to perform. There are many similarities between the expected character of an overseer and that of a deacon, leading us to understand that this was not a lesser leadership position in any way. Deacons just had a different focus or set of responsibilities. There are 5 things which deacons should do, according to the requirements Paul lists in this passage: 1) A Deacon Should Show Consistent Self-Control; 2) A Deacon Should Hold Solid Christian Convictions; 3) A Deacon Should Have a History of Demonstrating a Heart for Service; 4) A Deacon Should Faithfully Lead His Family; and 5) A Deacon Should Serve Confidently, Affirmed by Christ and His Church.Spiritual maturity & obedience are essential parts of a servant’s heart.1 Timothy 3:1-7Sept. 28, 2025To watch the video of this message, click here.

Sep 21, 2025What They Need to LeadSeries: 1 TimothyGood leadership in the church is important. In his letter to timothy, the Apostle Paul gives some guidelines for the type of person to seek out when looking for leaders in the church. In 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Paul gives a list of 15 different things which should be observable in those who would serve the church as overseers. The one overarching quality necessary for these Christian leaders is living a life that is above reproach. The other 14 qualifications break down into four groups which will form the basis of our study together: 1) An overseer should lead a consistent Christian Life; An overseer should faithfully lead his family; 3 ) An overseer should have a history of humble Christian living; and 4 ) An overseer should respectable in the eyes of the non-Christian community.Live a life that can be an example to others, especially if you lead.1 Timothy 3:1-7Sept. 21, 2025To watch the video of this message, click here.
