An Encouraging Introduction
Series: 1 Timothy
Paul wrote 1 Timothy to a younger pastor in a difficult ministry.  He wrote not only to Timothy himself, but intended that the letter would be read to the entire church.  His purpose was to give instruction on a number of topics, and to affirm Timothy’s ministry.  But, he also wrote to encourage this young pastor.  Right from the introduction of his letter, Paul immediately offers encouragement to Timothy.

In the opening 2 verses of 1 Timothy we see that 1) Paul Provides an Encouraging Example of Faithfulness, and 2) Paul Encourages Timothy with Truths of the Christian Faith.

Let's commit to encourage one another to hope in Christ and remember God’s gifts of grace, mercy, and peace.

    One Way
    Series: Galatians
Since his opening words, Paul has used his letter to the Galatians to try to answer one primary question, “Are people justified simply by faith in Christ or is justification earned by following certain rituals or rules?”  He has repeatedly reassured believers that it is faith in Christ Jesus alone which saves us.

As Paul takes pen in hand to personally conclude his letter, three points rise to the surface by way of reminder: 1) Beware the Problem of Religious Pride; 2) Boast Only in Christ’s Work on the Cross; and 3) Bear the Blessing of Being a New Creation.

We are a new creation through faith in Christ.

    God’s Grace is Enough
    Series: (All)
Life’s struggles can seem overwhelming – we can give in to discouragement, depression and anxiety, worrying about what will or won’t happen.  We can find ourselves wondering, “Where is God’s grace now?  Will He show me grace even here?”

God’s grace is present here and now – it is available to us.  A look at 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 helps us to see that God’s grace wasn’t just available and sufficient for Paul, but that it is presently available and sufficient for us as well, no matter what we’re going through.  Four points can be discerned in Paul's words to us: God’s Grace is Sufficient for Unsolicited Problems; 2) God’s Grace Should Drive Us to Unrelenting Prayer; 3) God’s Grace Shows Up in Unexpected Provision; and 4) God’s Grace Leaves Us with Undeniable Peace.

God’s grace is sufficient to sustain you no matter what you may be suffering.

    Opportunity Knocks
    Series: Galatians
There are opportunities that present themselves in our lives which are always right to take advantage of.  For instance, in Galatians 6:6-10, Paul encourages us to take every opportunity to do good to others.  Part of what it means to live and walk by the Spirit is to care for the practical needs of others, especially other believers.

Paul presents us with 3 challenges in this passage: 1) Take Care of Those Who Teach God’s Word; 2) Consider Carefully How You Will Use All that God has Given You; and 3) Hang In There and Keep Helping Others, Even When it’s Hard.

Take every opportunity to do good to others and care for their needs.

    Blueprints for Life
    Series: Father's Day
When it comes to construction, there are certain common elements no matter how big a project may be.  You need to understand the plans (or at least have a plan), you need good materials, and you need to be careful as you build.

Regardless of your skill with a drill, we are all builders of God’s church.  In 1 Cor. 3:10-15, the apostle Paul informs us that we are all in the Christian construction business, and that we all need to be mindful of the work we do in the name of Christ.  Paul's blueprints for life include 4 instructions to us: 1) Be Sure to Build Carefully; 2) Build on the Proper Foundation; 3) Use Quality Materials; and 4) Remember the Coming Inspection.

Build God's Church by doing your best to honor God with your deeds.

    Care, Bear, and Beware
    Series: Galatians
In Galatians 6:1-5, Paul addresses the problem of individual sin by explaining our corporate responsibility – a Christian may sin alone, but his or her sin affects the whole.  Our calling is to help one another when we find each other caught in sin.  Paul instructs us to do 3 things: 1) Restore the Broken; 2) Relieve the Burdened; and 3) Resist Being Prideful.

Be humble as you help fellow sinners and bear each other’s burdens.

    Dying to Live
    Series: Galatians
As Paul wraps up Galatians 5, he summarizes for us much of what he’s been telling us all along – we are to walk by the leading of God’s Holy Spirit.  Two main points show up in our passage: 1) Remember That You Have Died to the Desires of the Flesh; and 2) Live Your Life in Step with God’s Spirit.

Leave your fleshly life behind and live by the Spirit.

Growing in Godly Character – Cruise Control or Self-Control?
    Series: Galatians
Behind most of the greatest accomplishments in our world are people who demonstrate amazing self-control - The sort of dedication needed to work hard at something, until a level of mastery is acquired.  Regrettably, a lack of self-control can also be a very obvious thing, showing up as addiction, materialism, anger, or unwise spending, for example.

God wants us to demonstrate self-control in our lives.  That is why it is among the 9 elements of the Fruit of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23.  Using the book of Proverbs as our source for God's instruction on self-control, there are three points I'd like to make: 1) An Absence of Self-Control Should Be a Serious Concern in Our Lives; 2) We Need to Strive for Self-Control in Every Area of Life; and 3) Growing in Self-Control is one of the Greatest Battles You Will Fight.

Self-control comes through submission to the Savior.
