Are You Certain?
Series: 2 Timothy
Uncertainty about our faith is something that I think every Christian struggles with at different times.  We may feel uncertain about God’s direction, presence, or provision in our lives.  Our struggle may be with uncertainty about the truth of God’s Word in its entirety.  We may even struggle with uncertainty regarding the reality of our salvation from sin through faith in Jesus Christ.
God wants His followers to be certain.  As Paul passes on his final words to Timothy, seeking to encourage the young pastor in his ministry, and to remain faithful to the truth handed down from God in Christ, he aludes to three areas of certainty that strengthen our Christian faith: 1) The Certainty of Who Christ is Assures Us of What He’s Done; 2) The Certainty of the Gospel Truth Gives us Stamina for Enduring Suffering; and 3) The Certainty of God’s Faithfulness Guarantees the Believer’s Future.
The certainty of salvation is found through faith in Christ and is guaranteed by God’s faithfulness.

    Going All In
    Series: 2 Timothy
Some jobs are just hard.  They may be extremely physically demanding or mentally taxing.  Some jobs have long work hours; others carry inordinately high levels of stress.  Still, there are people who regularly perform whatever work it is.  Just because something is hard doesn't mean we should avoid it or that it's not worth doing.  It simply means that we have to go all in and give it everything we've got.
It is not news to most believers that faithfully following and serving Christ is hard work as well.  There are just times when it is really difficult to live the way God calls us to live.
In 2 Timothy 2:1-7, Paul encourages this young pastor, and all believers since, to commit to giving Christ our all.  Six encouraging truths can be noted in this passage: 1) Find Strength in God's Grace Given to Us in Christ; 2) Faithfully Share God’s Word with Others Who Will Do the Same; 3) Focus on Serving the Lord, Free of Distractions; 4) Follow God’s Plans to Prepare for Spiritual Endurance; 5) Fruitfulness is God’s Blessing on Hard-Working Believers; and 6) Fervently Seek the Lord for Spiritual Understanding.
Faithfully following and serving Christ is hard work.  Commit to give Him your all.

What Does Faithful Living Look Like?
    Series: 2 Timothy
We have all manner of examples all around us.  We learn from others from our very first days – learning how to talk and walk, how to read and write, how to mow the lawn, load the dishwasher, fix the car, get stains out of our clothes, and things far more complex.
This is no less true in our spiritual lives.  We learn from the examples of other Christians, from examples in Scripture, and, of course, from God’s commands to us in the Bible.  If you want to live a life of faithfulness to the Lord, look to His Word, and to the examples of faithful Christians.
There are 4 points I believe we can draw from our study in 2 Timothy 1:13-18 this morning; two come by way of command, the other two by way of example.  Paul’s words encourage us to: 1) Learn from Faithful Teaching and Live It; 2) Faithfully Guard the Gospel Treasure; 3) Don’t Forsake the Faith or Your Christian Friends; and 4) Seek to Serve Faithfully to Your Final Days.
    Follow good examples of faithfulness.

    A Know-So Salvation
    Series: 2 Timothy
There are times when each of us can struggle with  spiritual discouragement as we wrestle with the sin in our lives.  We can feel hopeless that we will ever be able to obey Christ the way we want to; we can even be tempted to feel ashamed, not only of ourselves, but of our Christian faith.  After all, the things Christians believe does make them stand out in our faithless culture.  How are we to feel when others reject or ridicule us for our faith in Christ?  Where can we find our hope?

Paul’s words to Timothy in our passage this morning provide us with an answer.  We will find encouragement as we come to understand and trust in God for our salvation.  Three things come to light in our text: 1) We Are to Reject Ungodly Shame, Even in the Face of Suffering; 2) We Are to Find Strength in the Assurance of Salvation; and 3) Be Confident that Christ Can Keep You to the Very End.

Our salvation is assured through faith in Jesus Christ; we need not be ashamed for He holds our future.

    Fanning the Flames of Faith
    Series: 2 Timothy
In the opening words of his 2nd letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul encourages Timothy to fan the flames of the gift God has given him.  You could say that keeping our faith at the right spiritual temperature allows God to best work in us and through us.

This morning we are going to begin a study of 2 Timothy together.  After taking a few minutes to look at some of the background to this letter, I want us to see 3 things in Paul’s introductory words: 1) Spiritual Life Comes from Our Loving Lord.; 2) Spiritual Growth is a Gift of God Which Requires our Cooperation; and 3) We Share a Responsibility to Encourage the Spiritual Growth of Others.

Be thankful for your spiritual heritage and encourage the spiritual growth of others.
