God’s Church is to be a caring community. When we are living life the way God calls us to in His Word, we see this taking place constantly in real-time. Healthy churches not only minister to people’s spiritual needs, but to their physical needs as well.
In 1 Timothy 5:1-16, Paul lays out God’s instructions to Timothy and the church, that they may be a caring community. The focus is predominately on widows, but the principles can be applied broadly: 1) Be Respectful of Others around You; 2) Show Compassion to Widows Who Demonstrate Christian Character; 3) Accept Appropriate Responsibility for Caring for Others; and 4) A Warning & Instruction for Younger Widows.
We are called to show respect, compassion, and responsibility toward others in the church.
