Sermon Notes

Behind most of the greatest accomplishments in our world are people who demonstrate amazing self-control – The sort of dedication needed to work hard at something, until a level of mastery is acquired.  Regrettably, a lack of self-control can also be a very obvious thing, showing up as addiction, materialism, anger, or unwise spending, for example.

God wants us to demonstrate self-control in our lives.  That is why it is among the 9 elements of the Fruit of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23.  Using the book of Proverbs as our source for God’s instruction on self-control, there are three points I’d like to make: 1) An Absence of Self-Control Should Be a Serious Concern in Our Lives; 2) We Need to Strive for Self-Control in Every Area of Life; and 3) Growing in Self-Control is one of the Greatest Battles You Will Fight.

Self-control comes through submission to the Savior.
