Sermon Notes

We typically have reasons for going places, wherever it is we go: You go to school to get an education so you can make a living.  You go to work to make money so you can pay the bills.  You go to the gym for exercise and better health.  You go to the grocery store to buy food.  Most of us could likely give a reason that we choose to attend church as well.  We might say that going to church is the most spiritually fulfilling, inspiring thing we do all week.

Let me change it up a bit, though.  What if I was to ask, “What is the reason you should become a member of a church?”  That’s different, isn’t it?  It’s one thing to attend a church.  But, we’d probably say it’s a different level of commitment entirely to become a member of a church.

It’s good to occasionally look into some of these basic sorts of topics.  There are 3 things we’re going to cover this morning: 1) What does it mean to be a member of The Church? 2) A few objections to membership; and 3) What is the value of being a member of a local church?

The Christian life involves more than just believing – it also includes belonging!  We grow in Christ by being in relationship to other Christians.
