Following Faithfulness

We do a lot of learning by example in our lives.  From our earliest moments we follow the example given to us by those who raised us.  A parent spoon-feeding their baby will open their own mouth to encourage the baby to do the same.  In school our teachers set examples for us to follow all the time – “Here’s how to spell that word; this is how you solve that math equation.”  Hands-on skills are another area where examples help us learn.  Whether changing the oil on a car or baking cookies, a good example is very helpful.

When it comes to our relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, the examples we choose to pattern ourselves after can have eternal consequences.  That is one reason why the Apostle Paul makes such a point to call out false teachers and bad examples in the letters he writes.  He wants his readers to be able to discern between the good and the bad, the right and the wrong.

in 2 Timothy 3:10-13 we find Paul encouraging us to follow examples of faithfulness in Christian living.  Three points can be discerned in our passage: 1) We Can Learn a Lot from Those Who Love the Lord; 2) Living for Christ Always Comes at a Cost; and 3) Deceitful Teaching Leaves One Drifting into Moral and Spiritual Decay.

Learn from and follow good examples of Godly living.
